Adaptive grid refinement for ship resistance computations

This paper studies the possibility of using adaptive grid refinement for routine, automated simulations ship resistance in calm water. With increase maturity and reliability mesh adaptation methods, main remaining challenge is creation straightforward, universal user guidelines which allow these computations to be run correctly, without resorting trial error set parameters. The uses flow solver ISIS-CFD. For this solver, a simulation protocol computation proposed, specifies example choice criterion global size. To investigate generality protocol, it fine-tuned on one test case then applied unchanged three different cases. tests show that solutions have good behaviour compare well with experiments. Furthermore, numerical uncertainty estimation works cases, increases trustworthiness solutions. Where tested, produces same as traditional meshing methods reduced computational costs. As such, shown possible today routine basis advantageous compared other techniques.
